Heifer.org educates in animal husbandry and donates farm animals, including honey bees. The Heifer Project was started in 1944 by a Midwest farmer, Dan West. West had returned from the Spanish Civil War as a volunteer helping feed refugees. He thought humbly that a good way to help people was to make them able to better their own situation from the roots up.
